How to install Acclimach on your Mac

It takes a few minutes. The extra steps are allowing Acclimach once in System Settings, because it isn't notarized by Apple, and granting the permissions its features need.

  1. 1

    Download Acclimach

Download Acclimach-macOS.dmg and open it from your Downloads folder. Acclimach needs macOS 14.2 Sonoma or later and runs natively on Apple silicon and Intel Macs.

  2. 2

    Drag Acclimach to Applications

In the window that opens, drag Acclimach onto the Applications folder. Then eject the disk image. You can delete the .dmg file afterwards.

  3. 3

Open it once, then click Done

Open Acclimach from Applications. Because Acclimach isn't notarized by Apple, macOS stops it the first time. Click Done. Don't choose Move to Trash.

Choose Open Anyway in System Settings

Open System Settings › Privacy & Security and scroll down to Security. Next to “Acclimach was blocked to protect your Mac,” click Open Anyway, then confirm with your password or Touch ID. This button appears for about an hour after step 3.

    Confirm, and you're done

Click Open Anyway once more. macOS remembers your choice, so Acclimach opens normally from now on. When you download a future version, you may need to allow it once more.

    Follow the welcome guide

Acclimach opens a short welcome guide. Choose the features you want, then grant the permissions they need. Each permission is explained in plain words before macOS asks for it, and you can skip one and come back later in Settings › Permissions. After granting Accessibility or Input Monitoring, quit and reopen Acclimach if a feature still shows as waiting.

Why does macOS ask?

Apple shows this for apps that aren't notarized, a paid Apple review program for developers. Acclimach isn't notarized. It runs entirely on your Mac and has no account, no analytics and no cloud backend. You can read exactly what it does on the privacy page.

Only allow apps you downloaded from a source you trust. Acclimach's official downloads come from ballmac.com.

On macOS 14 Sonoma

In Applications, Control-click (or right-click) Acclimach, choose Open, then click Open in the dialog. That's all you need; the System Settings step above is for macOS 15 and later.

Prefer Terminal?

After step 2, this removes the download quarantine flag from Acclimach so it opens without prompts. It's also the fix if macOS says Acclimach “is damaged and can't be opened.” Only use it for apps you trust.

Permissions, in short

Accessibility lets Acclimach see and move windows. Input Monitoring lets it notice the shortcuts it owns, like Option+Tab. Screen Recording is optional and only draws window previews. Audio Capture is only for the volume slider of each app. Turn each one on in System Settings › Privacy & Security. The Permissions pane in Acclimach's settings shows what is granted and takes you to the right place.

Uninstalling

If you have Pro, open Settings › License and click Deactivate first, so you can use your key on another Mac. Then quit Acclimach from its menu bar icon and drag it from Applications to the Trash.

Acclimach keeps only its settings, in your user preferences (com.ballmac.acclimach), and your license key in the Keychain. Clipboard history lives in memory and disappears when the app quits, apart from Pro pins.
